Living more Fully in Recovery
Holidays can present you with triggers, remind you of times when drugs and alcohol were expected, and cause you to fear your new freedom from drugs and alcohol. Try to avoid the people and behavior which accompany drug and alcohol use. This is a time to find activities and relationships which are more fulfilling and long-lasting.
To maintain your physical and emotional recovery and well-being, build a weekly activity plan and take your posse/ supportive others. Avoid slippery places and people. Bring a sober friend or supportive family member and bookend with a meeting if you have to attend slippery holiday events.
Ask other sober people what has helped them and what they do for the holidays. Take sober friends and bookend slippery places and events with a meeting.
When you feel a craving or feel upset or down, talk about it with someone who will appreciate your confidence. Find something nice to do for someone or something constructive to contribute.
