Recovery Supportive Activities and Resources for Celebrating the Holidays

The US recorded the all-time highest rate of drug overdose deaths in 2021. The holidays are high risk for people with drug or alcohol problems, including those in recovery. Drug and alcohol use usually accompany holiday events.

Holiday celebrations too often coincide with drug use and heavy drinking, especially for those prone to problems. “Christmas Past” recall contributes to excessive drinking and drugging, even among those who usually do so moderately.

The Covid pandemic brought social, political and economic disruptions which creates stress and anxiety. Many seeking relief and a source of renewed pleasure can increase their risk of consequences from alcohol and drug recklessness. People in recovery can be at risk of relapse.

Community events and resources which can divert away from alcohol and drug use are available for everyone.
