Finding Recovery Celebration for the 2022 Holiday Season

Supportive people and events are especially important during the holidays. Rather than encountering triggering events and temptations alone and without a plan, build a weekly schedule where you can plan to connect with sober/ supportive friends and stay active with events which are absent the usual alcohol and drugs for holiday festivity.

If you are obligated to be around drug or alcohol using, take a sober friend and bookend it with meetings.

Having a great time in sobriety takes some planning and willingness to change. Call your support team/ posse and agree on meetings and events you will share with them. When you participate in and bring a friend to new sober activities, you establish a stronger recovery for everyone.

Torrance, Long Beach, South Bay have a huge variety of events to choose from. Try some of the following:

Clean and Sober Holidays 2022
Recovery Supportive Holiday Events

Holidays present huge opportunities for building stronger sober supportive relationships and to practice recovery building skills. When triggers are presented in a way that bring you face-to-face with emptiness, craving or loneliness, this is the exact moment to call a friend, go to a meeting, or connect with a sober friend or sponsor.

Remember that you help others by participating in each of your sobriety- helping builds your recovery!

Too often we learned that alcohol and other drugs eased anxieties we might have when relating to others, or they provided an immediate relief and easy pastime. The emptiness and/or regrets of overindulgence or worse weren’t enough to guard against the first drink or drug.

Establishing new relationships and practices is difficult and rewarding. Write down a weekly schedule of social holiday events with others. Bookend slippery or triggering places and events with a meeting and take a sober friend.

Try some of the following Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Seal Beach, Long Beach, Cypress activities or participate in holiday events where drugs and alcohol are not central:
